Dec 23, 2008 · I have just bought a Premier Artist series brass snare. I got it from new for £98 or about $200. I played it for the first time last night and was really pleased. I am changing the stock heads for a Remo controlled sound coated batter head and a Evans hazy snare head. Anyone used this snare or got any tuning suggestions. I use a drum dial.

Mar 24, 2005 · Premier series are 3mm undersized. If you get a chance to look at a kit, you'll notice there is a little more of a gap between the collar of the drum head and the actual shell. The artist series isn't as undersized. From what I've looked at there wasn't anything that struck me as a lower quality of wood being used for Artist.

If it's missing the dampener , you can peek at the inside edge of the hole and see if it isn't gold/yellow . Even mildly rotate a narrow blade around the inside circumference of the dampener's hole and check again for the colouring .
