About the Artist. R.A. Miller lived most of his life in Rabbittown, GA, just north of Gainesville. On his land, he erected whirligigs and made metal cutout and painted figures. He gained widespread fame in 1984 after the band REM filmed “Left of Reckoning” (dir. James Herbert) among Miller’s whirligigs.

R.A. Miller (1912–2006) Self-Taught/Folk Art Ruben Aaron Miller, born in Rabbittown, GA, was the youngest of eight children. Six months before he was born, his father was shot and killed over a land dispute for the control of a public road. For years after, the fatherless family "got by on farming cotton, hunting and fishing."
