Roger Pickett - Artist: Biography. I was born in Chelmsford where much of my schooling took place. By profession I was a Chartered Surveyor but since retiring am able to spend more time drawing & painting than hitherto. I have been painting in watercolour and exhibiting for the last 48 years.

Towards twilight I drew these buildings in Kirkcudbright at low tide. I was attracted to the way that the buildings contrasted in tone with the surrounding area and I wanted to express the interesting tones and shapes formed by the gables, punctuated by the disparately positioned windows and chimneys. This little boat was arriving in St Abbs about the same time as I was sketching the previous scene. It is a very simple sketch of a quickly moving scene but I think it conveys the arrival of man & his boat.

Sep 26, 2012 · Pickett was also influential for young Nyoongar painters. Between 1996 and 2003, he worked as a lecturer at TAFE in Midland and Bunbury, helping to develop the Diploma of Aboriginal Visual Arts course. Pickett’s influence and stewardship led to the widespread adoption of his style amongst a younger generation of artists.
