The Society was founded in 1939 as the Society of Marine Artists and became the Royal Society of Marine Artists in 1966. The RSMA has amongst its membership some of the finest marine painters working today and is one of the affiliated societies of the Federation of British Artists based at the Mall Galleries in London.
