A St. Louis native, Russell William Morland Kraus was born in 1918 to German immigrants. As a young man, he studied fine arts at Washington University (1936-1940) and served as Carnegie Resident Artist at Hendrix College in Arkansas, where he taught painting, design, and drawing (1941-42).

Russel Kraus passed away Sunday November 8th, 2009 and left us his legacy and treasure of wonderful art. I do believe God works in mysterious ways, and he had a hand in me finding these great paintings. The art curator wanted two of the paintings shown below. I have the other one in my collection.

Russell Kraus exhibit at Des Lee. This past weekend I went with my daughter to see an exhibit at the Des Lee Gallery of the work of Russell Kraus, who is best known in St. Louis as the man who commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to design and build a house in Kirkwood, Mo in the 1950's. The house is now part of the parks system and is open by appointment to the public.
