Apr 06, 2019 · Santana's 'Abraxas' cover art depicts a psychedelic biblical scene, and while the 1970 LP is one of the best releases of the era it's also famous for the risque imagery. The painting was the creation of surrealist Mati Klarwein, who also painted record sleeves for Miles Davis, the Chambers Brothers, and Gregg Allman.

Years later Carlos Santana saw a reproduction of the Annunciation in a magazine and wanted it for the cover of his all time best selling Abraxas album. It did me a world of good. I saw the album pinned to the wall in a shaman's mud hut in Niger and inside a Rastafarian's ganja hauling truck in Jamaica.
