    Mach studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, Dundee (1974-79), then at the Royal College of Art, London (1979-82). Mach was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1988 and took up the position of Professor of Sculpture at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2000. Mach is an Honorary Royal Scottish Academician.
