Aug 29, 2010 · Tagging an album artist treats the symptom, but Winamp is still sick--it used to sort properly without an album artist! The sort order when sorting by album now seems to be Album -> Album Artist (or Artist if none) -> Disc -> Track -> Artist... Even unchecking "Use Artist as Album Artist if not available" in Local Media preferences does not help.

Dec 18, 2006 · I've just added the %BAND% field as a column called Album Artist and it seems to be working fine with Winamp. Also, it seems that the default ML behaviour is to copy the Artist data over to the Album Artist (the metadata field not the ID3 tag) when Album Artist is null - just use the option to read metadata on a bunch of selected tracks.
