About Syd Durston. Born in 1932, Syd Durston paints recollections of life in 1940s Somerset. He began painting in 1992, wanting to capture scenes from his memory of a long forgotten way of life. There are very few photographs of rural life from this time period, making Syd’s work a fascinating historical record, as well as and a touching tribute to the community in which he was raised.
