The art-historical view of the Farnese Atlas is that it is a copy of a Greek original statue made sometime before around 1 B. C. Presumably, the sculptor made use of some Greek astronomer’s observations that were known at the time. Again, this is fully consistent with the source’s being Hipparchus. (5)
