An Artist Colony it is located a short 20 minute drive (from Green Valley) down I-19, south of her. We spent a most enjoyable and lesiurely day visiting the many shops located here.4/5(73)

In fact, few people will ever get the chance to see this colony in their lifetime. Situated on the Santa Cruz River, it was founded in 1752 when the Spanish army built a presidio (fortress) known as Fort Tubac. It was established in order to protect the Spanish missions and settlements which were located around the Santa Cruz River Valley.
Established in 1752 as a Spanish Presidio (fort), Tubac now hosts working artists whose studios surround the former parade grounds. The village remembers this colorful history well at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park, located in Old Town, where outdoor displays and an excellent museum bring it all to life.
