Virgil Marti was born in Saint Louis, Missouri, where he received his B.F.A. from Washington University. He received his M.F.A. from the Tyler School of Art in 1990. After attending Skowhegan in 1990, he worked for many years as a master printer and project coordinator at The Fabric Workshop and Museum.
