Nov 06, 2008 · Well, neither Linseed OR Walnut Oil are truly “solvents”–they are drying oils. They are the same oils that are the binder in most oil paints, so I imagine they would work well with oil pastels, if you require some sort of liquid to make them operate. Walnut is a very non-toxic drying oil. When bought in a food store, it is edible.
