Ashcroft, James William (1899-1971) Very little in the way of artistic information seems to be available on this artist. Born in England, he was the son of James W. and Ann (Sleigh) Ashcroft. By the time of the 1930 Census, he was living in Highland Park, Michigan and worked at the local auto factory as an assembly line inspector.

May 28, 2012 · Painter William Ascroft spent many evenings making pastel sky-sketches from the banks of the Thames at Chelsea, noting his frustration that he “could only secure in a kind of chromatic shorthand the heart of the effect, as so much of the beauty of afterglow consisted in concentration.”
