He is said to have been a porcelain painter at Spode's factory, a pupil of William Mulready, R.A., and to have worked for Rudolph Ackermann in the Strand.

William Buelow Gould (1801–53), artist. Born in Liverpool, England, Gould arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1827 as a convict, charged with theft and transported for seven years. Gould's sentence was reduced when he acted bravely during a mutiny on a convict ship.

William Buelow Gould. Gould worked for a coachbuilder in Launceston for a short period of time before returning to Hobart, where he married a woman named Ann Reynolds in December 1836. He continued to paint many oil studies of animals, fish, and flowers, but eventually became marred by drunkenness, and lived in poverty with his wife and family.
