Mar 20, 2010 · Windows Media Player won't change "Unknown Artist". When Windows Media Player can't read a song's meta data correctly, it lists it under "Unknown Artist." When I right click the generic album picture and select "Find album info," a new window appears where I can enter the artist's correct name. However, changing the name from Unknown Artist to the correct name accomplishes nothing.

Jun 19, 2020 · Your computer and Windows Media Player can read a lot of tag versions, so when you’re connected you can read the tags. But the Sansa, with its itty-bitty brain, can’t read every version. So when you’re just relying on the Sansa, it reads Unknown. Jun 15, 2012 · The basic problem here is that iTunes use ID3v2.4 tags, Windows (and WMP) uses ID3v2.3 tags and can't read ID3v2.4. So if you update the tags with iTunes and then add those tracks to WMP they're going to show up as "Unknown Artist". This is always going to cause problems if you try to use both iTunes and WMP libraries at the same time.
