Born 1975 Rachel is a well-established Natural History Illustrator she has a longstanding relationship with Kew Gardens and spent many years illustrating pressed and dried specimens within the Herbarium. Rachel studied at Royal College of Art for her MA and PhD. She has been awarded four gold medals from the Royal Horticultural Society.

Watercolour on paper, Rachel Pedder-Smith, PhD My work comprises illustrating dried, pressed plant specimens from the collection at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in unique and striking compositions. For my PhD I created one large watercolour painting, Herbarium Specimen Painting, which is over five metres long and took 766 days to complete.
